Our Story

We bought a lot of winter coats before we made one.

Between New York City, Michigan and now Seattle, we’ve spent most of our adult lives in cold places. For Feng in Michigan, winter is before sunrise, below zero, with the dog to walk. For Ni, it is the earliest flight of the week in a cold cabin, then a trip the next day with a jacket that has to fit in a backpack. Our days move between work, family and whatever time we can make for ourselves. We needed a jacket that could keep up.

Instead, we had a closet full of coats and still wore the wrong one by afternoon: too heavy for the office or too thin for the sideline. Some looked good but didn’t last. Others were built for the mountain and felt out of place at dinner. The few that got both right often cost more than we could justify.

We wanted one good jacket we would reach for most days. Warm enough for a cold morning, comfortable on the commute and easy to bring along when plans changed. Something that looked right at the office and felt right on a Seattle trail with the family.

That’s why we started Sounor. We’re building the jacket we wished we’d had, with everyday life in mind. Getting out the door is already enough work, and the coat should be the easy part.

Our Mission

Sounor makes premium down products for living, moving and exploring. They are warm without being heavy, made from one natural material, understood properly, with the numbers published.

Staying warm, for most of us, is not an expedition. It’s part of an ordinary day. That’s what we make for.

A full day feels lighter when we have the energy for it. Ours comes from small moments of comfort and, when there is room, a little more time in nature. Sounor exists to make those moments easier to come by.

We sell direct, so what you pay goes into the fill and the construction.

Our Material

Down is the whole company. Everything else is construction around it.

Two numbers decide how warm a down product is, and they only mean something together.

Fill power measures springiness: how much space one ounce of down fills. Higher fill power means more warmth for less weight.

Fill weight is how many grams of down are in the product.

Most brands publish the first number. We publish both, for every product and every size, next to the temperature range we think it’s honestly good for. You can do the same arithmetic we did. That’s the point.

Construction keeps the down where it belongs. Down-proof fabrics and sealed seams stop fill from migrating, so warmth stays evenly distributed over years rather than months. In our jackets, a soft matte shell sheds steady rain while letting heat and moisture escape, and a heat-reflecting lining holds warmth close to the body without adding bulk.

How to read any down product, including ours. Find the fill power. Find the fill weight in grams, for the size you would actually buy. Look at both.
